At Intiwasi, we are proud to serve students from TK through 2nd grade, with plans to expand each year, culminating in 5th grade. As an IB candidate school, we follow all city and state standards, providing a rigorous academic program paired with our commitment to dual immersion education. Our supportive environment nurtures intellectual, emotional, and social growth, ensuring students thrive both academically and personally as they progress through our expanding elementary program.

International Baccalaureate Candidate

The IB Primary Years Program (PYP) is a dynamic, inquiry-based educational framework designed for young learners aged 3 to 12. It emphasizes holistic development, encouraging students to explore and understand the world around them through inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The PYP nurtures not only academic skills but also social, emotional, and cultural awareness. Students engage in transdisciplinary learning experiences, connecting various subject areas and real-world contexts.

At its core, the PYP aims to inspire lifelong learners who are globally-minded, compassionate, and ready to contribute positively to our diverse world.

Academic Programs

Foss Science

FOSS (Full Option Science System) is a research-based science curriculum for grades K-8 developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley. FOSS has evolved from a philosophy of teaching and learning that has guided the development of successful active-learning science curricula for more than 40 years. The FOSS Program bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students and teachers in enduring experiences that lead to deeper understanding of the natural and designed worlds.

Singapore Math

We follow the Singapore Math program, which emphasizes problem-solving and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Students develop strong numeracy skills, critical thinking, and the ability to approach math from a conceptual and practical perspective. Through hands-on activities and real-world applications, students are prepared for higher-level mathematics and everyday problem-solving.

Hands on Learning

Our approach goes beyond traditional lectures, as we believe that true understanding and mastery emerge when students actively engage with the subject matter. Through hands-on activities, students become participants in their own education, diving into the material to solve challenges and create meaningful projects. Whether it's building a model, conducting experiments, or crafting an artistic masterpiece, hands-on learning immerses students in the learning process.

Socio-Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) has a remarkable impact on students' lives, fostering academic success, improved behavior, emotional well-being, and positive social interactions. Research shows that developing strong social and emotional skills enhances academic performance, boosting achievement scores by about 11 percentile points.

Students engaged in SEL display fewer behavioral problems, with long-term benefits that persist even into adulthood. SEL equips students with the tools to manage emotions, preventing issues like depression, anxiety, and stress. Positive social behavior flourishes as students learn essential skills for healthy relationships with peers, parents, and teachers. By embracing SEL, students are not only better prepared for academic challenges but also empowered to succeed beyond the classroom, taking on life's opportunities with confidence.

Language Arts

Our dual-language immersion program is designed to develop bilingual and biliterate students. Our students begin with 90% of instruction in Spanish and 10% in English, allowing them to engage in daily language practice that strengthens their reading, writing, and communication skills in both languages. As students progress through our elementary program, this ratio shifts to allow more english language exposure, culminating in a 50/50 split of English and Spanish.

Our language arts curriculum fosters critical thinking and helps students express themselves confidently in two languages.

Assessment and Reporting

We believe in a personalized approach to learning. Each student begins the school year with an initial assessment, followed by the creation of an Individual Learning Plan tailored to their specific needs and goals. Students are then assessed each trimester to track their progress, with formal report cards issued twice a year. We also hold regular parent-teacher conferences to ensure ongoing communication between the school and families.
